We made an enumeration of the nicest annual events in Amsterdam, so make sure you'll be there!

Juli 2009

Kwakoe Summerfestival

On Saturday the 4th of July the renewed Kwakoe Summerfestival started in the

Bijlmerpark. Until the 9th of August, Amsterdam South-East will celebrate the biggest multicultural festival of the Netherlands.

Vondelpark Outdoor Theatre

From the 7^th until the 23^rd of August there is an outdoor theatre in the Vondelpark. The Friday is reserved for dance, the Saturday for youth presentations, music theatre and cabaret. The Sunday is reserved for different kinds of music.

Amsterdam Tournament

On Friday the 24^th en Sunday the 26^th of July, host club Ajax, top clubs Atletico Madrid, SL Benfica, and Sunderland FC are present to battle for the tournament victory of the Amsterdam Tournament, worlds biggest tournament preparation in the Amsterdam Arena.

A Day at the Park

On the 25^th of July it is time for another Day at the Park. House fans can not miss this young festival in the Amsterdam Woods.

Gay Pride Amsterdam

Gay Pride Amsterdam, with the polychrome boat parade on the 1^st of August, takes place from the 26^th until the 2^nd of July.

Augustus 2009

Loveland Festival

On the 8^th of August the 4^th edition of the Loveland Festival takes place in the Sloterpark of Amsterdam.

Canal festival

From the 15^th until the 23^rd of August the Canal festival takes place in the main centre of Amsterdam and the IJ-shores. More than 100 concerts for young and old, house-, garden- and roof terrace concerts, reconnoitring expeditions, boat tours and promenades. The highlight of this festival is the Prinsengracht concert on the 22^nd of August.

Ramadanfestival

The fasting month in 2009 is from 22^nd of August until the 19^th of September. After that the Sugarfeast is starting, the end of the Ramadan month is celebrated on this day. This whole month long different organisations will organize all kind of activities. For example Iftar-meetings, hospitality dinners, readings and lounge nights.

Uitmarkt

From the 28^th until the 30^th of August the Uitmarkt will be celebrated on the Piet Heinkade in Zeeburg (and for a little part in the main centre). During this free festival, many artists and cultural institutions will present themselves to the public.

September 2009

Theatrefestival

From the 3^rd until the 13^th of September the Theatrefestival will take place. The new theatre season always starts with the best of the Netherlands and Flanders. You can find this festival in the municipal theatre and theatre Bellevue on the Leidsesquare.

Jordaanfestival

The festival of the popular Amsterdam songs on the Appeltjesmarkt started in 2008 on the 19^th of September and ended the 21^st of September. The date for 2009 is not announced yet.

Dam to Dam Walking-tour

On Saturday the 19^th of September the 7^th edition of the Dam tot Dam Walking-tour takes place. Beside the new participants record of more than 11.000 in 2008, there has never been that much amusement alongside the route.

Dam to Dam Run

On the 19^th and 20^th of September there will be a Dam tot Dam Run for the 25^th time. Especially for this jubilee Le Champion will not only organize the traditional run on Sunday, but also the Saturday night. The evening edition will be called: Dam tot Dam by night. The run starts at the Prins Hendrikkade in Amsterdam and the run will end in the Peperstraat in Zaandam.

Fair in Amsterdam

Who doesn't liked it as a child to be swinged around in a giant's stride or get sticky from a cotton candy? In Amsterdam it is possible almost a whole year long. From the 22^nd until the 27^th September on the Sierplein in Slotervaart.

October 2009

Children Book Week

The Children Book Week is an annual organized event for children. There are all kind of activities around the children book during this 10 day during event. Libraries, education, bookstores and cultural institutions hook into this week. Since 1961 they choose a subject for every Children Book Week, this year the subject is: on table!

Canal race Amsterdam

On the 10^th of October the 23^rd rowing boats canal race is organized. The start and finish will be, just like other years, in the Oosterdok. Not only the teams from in- and foreign land, but also the Amsterdam teams will participate in this race.

Marathon of Amsterdam

The 34^th edition of the Amsterdam Marathon will be organized on the 18^th of October. The marathon starts at 10.30 a.m. in the Olympic Stadium, the marathon ends around 5.00 p.m., also in the Olympic Stadium. The licence is requested...

Amsterdam Dance Event

On 40 locations in Amsterdam there were more than 700 acts and dj's on the 22^nd until the 25^th of October 2008. It is not only worlds biggest club festival, it is the most important music conference for dance and electronic music. The date for 2009 is not announced yet.

November 2009

Museum night

On the 7^th of November de n8 organizes the Museum night Amsterdam for the 10^th time. 41 museums will open their doors from 7.00 p.m. until 2.00 a.m. with a special program; at the same time you can see the permanent collections and the temporary exposures of the museums.

Amsterdam India Festival

From the 12^th until the 30^th of November 2008 the India Festival was in Amsterdam. Bollywood- next to experimental movies, an Indian version of Romeo and Juliet for children, dance and rock beside the south-Indian lute, for everyone something to do! The date for 2009 is not announced yet.

Saint Nicholas

On Sunday the 15^th of November Saint Nicholas probably will arrive in Amsterdam. The week after that, he will visit al the hospitals in Amsterdam and he will give a great theatre show in Carré.

Skating in Amsterdam

We hope that the skate season of this year will be as nice as last year. The Jaap Edenbaan is open and on different places in the city there are ice rinks. It will be great when we can skate on nature ice, but that will be the question until the very last moment.. It is just an appeasement that we can skate on the cosy ice rinks of Amsterdam!

Panna Knock Out

On the 16^th of November 2008 the 4^th edition of the Dutch Championships Panna Knock Out were organized. Panna is street football by which the subtle kick is more important than score a goal. This event will take place in the Westergasfabriek in Amsterdam. The date for 2009 is not announced yet.

December 2009

Saint Nicholas Gala voor volwassenen

The Amsterdam Saint Nicholas Gala for Adults is on his way. In the meantime this party(night) for adults is well known in Amsterdam and vicinity. The previously editions were sold out weeks before. And also this year the interest is big. On the 5^th of December, 8.00 p.m., this event will take place in the municipal theatre of Amsterdam.

New Years Eve: Party on Dam square
